This 2 mile strip of pure beach known by locals as ‘little Hawaii’ has waves reaching 18 feet, and offers lots of great peaks that work in higher tides. Further to the north, at the river mouth, you will discover the most powerful right breaks perfectly at mid-low tide. In this Costa Rica beach the waves are reasonably consistent and there are more than enough peaks for professional and amateur surfers to have hours of excitement.
Costa Rica is known for its 79 world sports fishing records, the main secret is located right here in Flamingo, as the local water currents flow to create a seemingly endless food source of bait in these waters, providing one of the best spots for sportfishing available in the North Pacific Coast, now famous for it world record catches per year; so you might as well try your luck and see if you are the next one on that list or record holders!
Scuba Diving in Costa Rica can be an unforgettable experience and one you can also enjoy it in Playa Avellanas as a myriad of sea life specimens’ parade before your eyes; or you can also visit the Las Baulas National Park, were Giant leatherback turtles use Playa Grande as their nesting ground from October to May. They can be seen every night on the beach, but considering that these turtles can weigh from 800 to 100 lbs, you might want a guide by your side.
If you want to keep your feet on Costa Rica land for a while we have 2 great choices, as the local parks offer adventurous hiking trails in the area that will allow you to take a closer look at the magnificent Guanacaste forest. Or if you prefer a more sophisticated activity, just outside our Playa Avellanas project you will find the famous Hacienda Pinilla Golf & Beach Resort, where you can enjoy playing at a masterpiece golf course (4.25 miles), built following the alluring contours of the natural landscape of Hacienda Pinilla, where you can also rent a Tennis court for as long as you want just for a small fee of $15 per hour.
